Episode 118

This week, James and Stefan discuss: Windows 10 and what Microsoft needs to do to get them to switch from their Macs, Pebble dropping the price of their smart watches, rumors of new iPads for both late 2014 and early 2015, the Nexus 6, Ello, and which phone should an Android tinkerer purchase?

As always, feedback is welcome, whether it be a comment below or an @ reply on Twitter. The best sort of feedback, however, is a rating on iTunes. The more ratings, the higher the show moves up in the rankings. The higher it’s up in the rankings, the more virtual cake gets sent to James’ and Stefan’s respective homes.

What a shame. I came to your podcast after listening to the Pocketnow Weekly. I’ve really enjoyed the 2 podcasts I’ve heard so far. The no nonsense 30 min only approach and also hearing a fellow Brit makes a refreshing change. Definitely subscribed and look forward to future recordings.

  2. Gerard says:

I’d certainly be missing this podcast. I kinda understand why you guys need a break. This week’s is sorta shitty.

  3. Jake says:

Sad to hear, but glad you’ll be coming back in January revitalised and with 3 months of news behind you!

Best of luck to both of you in current and new jobs.

  4. Have you considered doing podcasts only on a non-scheduled basis?

Just record when you feel like there’s enough news. Whether that’s after big product launches, trade fairs, or just when enough ‘Pinterest on Windows Phone’ stories have accumulated for it to be worthwhile. I want to know your opinions on the new nexus hardware and android L when it is released, for example.

Why struggle to find enough news for a weekly podcast when there’s not enough? It will only make you resentful. Save your energy, and maybe you can record sporadically all year because you won’t get so burned out.

Yeah, people who like the regularity will complain. But they can sign up by email and get alerted when there’s a new one anyway.

It’s a great little podcast. I love the format and the relaxed nature of it. And I think if you weren’t shackled to a schedule then you’d be able to approach it a lot more positively. You’ve both got a lot going on and the podcast should be fun rather than a burden.

So, what with Tab Dump being on hiatus too, I hope you guys keep showering the world with your semi-pro tech opinions on Twitter to make up for it.

Keep on doing what you do.

    1. It’s not a bad suggestion and it’s something I’ve been mulling over since the last show. As the norm, Stefan and I will probably discuss towards next week’s show. He’s got a lot of stuff coming up (with the move to NYC etc) but I think once that get settled, you might be onto something.

      We’ll see, eh?

  5. Toby says:

Better ask that question I’ve been meaning to ask.. do you think there is a place in the mobile space for more than two platforms?
Are we heading into an Android and iOS duopoly like Windows and Mac in the 90s, or is the mobile market big enough to support Blackberry, Windows Phone and even potential newcomers?

Thanks for a terrific show and looking forward to a bigger and brighter 2015!

  6. Karl says:

Real shame that your both taking a break, enjoy your jam packed pod casts enormously. Only got into them recently so sad to see them end as it was something I always looked forward to listening to. End of era, I hope not……….
